Well, 2020 certainly did not go as planned. As a world, we experienced something that no one ever expected….a worldwide pandemic. Life as we knew it has not been the same since phrases like coronavirus, COVID-19 precautions, wearing masks, and social distancing became part of our daily language. And let’s now even go anywhere near what we saw happen electorally in 2020. And spill over into 2021.
But it is a new year. And while it will be hard to watch what the Democrats do to our Country, we must take comfort in the knowledge that God is still in control. We must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get back in the fight. Take a few days to breathe and recover if you need to do so but then all of us need to continue to fight for our conservative values and fiscal common sense.
In 2022, we will be electing a new Governor and just about every office (other than President) will be on our ballot. We must begin right away to recruit and train our candidates and volunteers. The fight for 2022 begins NOW!
We will also be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the Maryland Federation of Republican Women this year! (hopefully in person!!)
Once more, I encourage each of you to step out of your comfort zone and invite people you meet to your next club meeting. Share good emails you receive about our efforts with people on your email list. Engage in a positive manner on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (never argue with people of opposing viewpoints and never ever make derogatory statements or call people names – always take the high road!) Be a great example of what it means to be a Republican! Lead by example!
And I encourage you to participate in MFRW events like the Leadership Conference, Red Scarf Day, our annual luncheon, Spring Board meeting, and Fall Convention.
As I’ve said before (and will probably repeat every year), May the New Year bring you many blessings and good fortune! And may we all remember to focus on what we have in common instead of what separates us!!
Thank you,
Diana Waterman
President, Maryland Federation of Republican Women
