What a tumultuous year 2019 was! Nationally the Democrats spent the year trying to find “something that would stick” so they could impeach the President. In late December, they finally succeeded in passing two articles of impeachment. In Maryland, we saw great changes in the Maryland General Assembly with some changes occurring voluntarily and some not quite so voluntarily. What a year it was!
Now it’s time to welcome another new year! 2020 sounds like it will be a year full of promise and opportunities.
I hope you will join me this year as we work hard to re-elect our President and grow our membership in the process. We will also be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of women getting the RIGHT TO VOTE.
I encourage each of you to step out of your comfort zone and invite people you meet to your next club meeting. Share good emails you receive about our President and his accomplishments with people on your email list. Engage in a positive manner on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (never argue with people of opposing viewpoints and never ever make derogatory statements or call people names – always take the high road!) Be a great example of what it means to be a Republican! Lead by example!
And I encourage you to participate in MFRW events like the Leadership Conference, Red Scarf Day, our annual luncheon, and Spring Board meeting. And please plan to join us in September as we celebrate not only the 100th anniversary of the Republican Women’s Club of Frederick County but also the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment at our Fall Convention!
As I’ve said before (and will probably repeat every year), May the New Year bring you many blessings and good fortune! And may we all remember to focus on what we have in common instead of what separates us!!
President, Maryland Federation of Republican Women
